Coronavirus: SLO County adds 1 COVID-19 death, 197 cases

San Luis Obispo County hospitals are almost entirely clear of COVID-19 patients as numbers remain low, according to data from the county Public Health Department.

Public Health reported only one person was receiving treatment for severe COVID-19 in area hospitals as of Wednesday, according to the Public Health Department. No patients are in intensive care units.

Also Wednesday, the county reported one death from the coronavirus, involving a person between the ages of 30-49. This death is the 23rd death for this age range. Locally, 549 people have died from the virus.

Public Health reported a total of 197 new infections during the last seven days ending Wednesday.

Here’s how local coronavirus case numbers from the past seven days break down day by day:

  • Thursday: 39
  • Friday: 77
  • Saturday: 13
  • Sunday: 14
  • Monday: 16
  • Tuesday: 34
  • Wednesday: 4
  • The two-week daily case average continues to hold steady at 25 this week. Last week, the two-week average was 24.

The number of active cases now stands at 149, continuing to dip week by week. On Sept. 14, the number of active cases was at 169, according to Public Health data.

The COVID-19 cases reported to Public Health each week only includes positive PCR tests, not positive antigen or at-home test results. Meaning, the weekly reported cases is likely an undercount to the true incidence of COVID-19 week after week.

In total, 63,672 San Luis Obispo County residents have tested positive for coronavirus since March 2020.

The agency on Sept. 21 released data showing that unvaccinated people account for about 62% of COVID-19 cases, 70% of hospitalizations and 64% of deaths since June 15, 2021.

Over the past week these are the top coronavirus cases by city: 33 in San Luis Obispo, 30 in Atascadero and 23 in Paso Robles.
