Coronavirus update for Thursday, Oct. 12


CLEVELAND, Ohio — The number of new COVID-19 cases in Ohio fell dramatically, from 6,380 last week to 4,997 this week, the Ohio Department of Health reported Thursday. It was the fourth consecutive week that case numbers dropped, after a previous 10 straight weeks of cases steadily rising.

The last time case numbers were this low was Aug. 17, when new daily cases reached 4,226.

The total COVID-19 case count since early 2020 in Ohio has now reached 3,532,064.

A total of 7,611,844 Ohioans have received at least one vaccination, representing about 68.5% of Ohioans age 5 and up.

There were 155 Ohioans newly hospitalized in the last week, raising the total since the beginning of COVID-19 in 2020 to 143,406.
