Coronavirus update for Thursday, Oct. 19


CLEVELAND, Ohio — After four straight weeks of falling case numbers, the trend reversed this week as the number of new COVID-19 cases in Ohio rose slightly. Case numbers increased from 4,997 last week to 5,506, the Ohio Department of Health reported Thursday.

The total COVID-19 case count since early 2020 in Ohio has now reached 3,537,570.

A total of 7,618,442 Ohioans have received at least one vaccination, representing about 68.6% of Ohioans age 5 and up.

There were 221 Ohioans newly hospitalized in the last week, raising the total since the beginning of COVID-19 in 2020 to 143,627.
