Leadership competencies are essential to meet the challenges in health care today. The skills needed to lead differ from those required to be great clinicians, scientists and health care professionals.

Outstanding patient outcomes depend on excellent teamwork and collaboration.

This coaching experience will explore leadership models and help to develop competencies.

More About the Presenter

Dr. James Stoller is chair of the Education Institute and holds the Jean Wall Bennett Professorship in Emphysema Research at the Cleveland Clinic.

Through his roles in Continuing Medical Education at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine to Scientific Publications and the Center for Educational Resources, his work covers a wide variety of educational communities. Dr. Stoller interfaces with academic partners and collaborates closely with all institute leaders.

Dr. Stoller is also the Samson Global Leadership Academy Endowed Chair, as well as an adjunct professor of Organizational Behavior at the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University.

A graduate of Yale University, he completed his residency in internal medicine at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston. He has authored more than 15 books, 72 chapters, 249 peer-reviewed reports and 119 abstracts. In addition, he serves as a diplomat in internal medicine and pulmonary disease for the American Board of Internal Medicine.

More About the Flinn Foundation Buffmire Lecture Series

In partnership with the Flinn Foundation, the college hosts the Buffmire Lecture series to bring national leaders in the science and art of medicine to Arizona to share their expertise with students, residents, clinicians, faculty and partners to improve health care for the communities we serve.

The lectureship is named for Donald K. Buffmire, MD, in recognition of his distinguished career as a medical practitioner in Arizona and his leadership role with the Flinn Foundation in supporting the College of Medicine – Phoenix.
