Orange County reported 2,864 more cases and 21 new deaths, Aug. 5 – Orange County Register
The OC Health Care Agency reported 2,864 more cases of the coronavirus from Tuesday, Aug. 2 to Friday, Aug. 5, increasing the cumulative total since tracking began in the county to 643,585.
There were 14,958 new cases reported in the last two-week period. The county is averaging at least 33.2 new cases a day per every 100,000 residents.
There were 271 people reported in Orange County hospitals with coronavirus on Friday, including 33 who required intensive care.
The county reported 21 more deaths on Friday, bringing the count of Orange County residents who have died from the virus to 7,235.
The data on deaths in the county is compiled from death certificates, or gathered through the course of case investigations, and can take weeks to process. The most recent death recorded was on July 26.
Of the 7,235 deaths reported from the virus, 1,377 were skilled nursing facility residents, 720 were in assisted living facilities, two were OC jail inmates, and 0 were listed as homeless.
It is estimated 608,617 people in the county have recovered from the virus. The count of people who have recovered is based on the prior 28-day cumulative case count.
