The number of reported coronavirus cases statewide rose in the week ending Nov. 11 but held steady in the Attleboro area.
Statewide, the number increased 10.13%, from 1,451 to 1,598. And in The Sun Chronicle’s 10-community area, it held steady at 35.
The actual numbers of cases, however, could be much more as most people don’t bother either home testing anymore or, when they do and are positive, don’t bother reporting the findings to their doctors.
For context, the highest number of new cases statewide for one week was recorded on Jan. 14, 2022, at 132,557.
The highest number locally for one week was 3,463, recorded on Jan. 13, 2022.
All told, since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020, the area has recorded 49,318 cases.
In the week ending Nov. 11, the case counts in The Sun Chronicle area was: Attleboro, 5; Foxboro, 6; Mansfield, 5; Norfolk, 1; North Attleboro, 6; Norton, 4; Plainville, 2; Rehoboth, 2; Seekonk, 2; Wrentham, 2.
Statewide, there were 1,598 confirmed cases reported with 555 probable cases for a total of 2,081,803 cases.
The number of confirmed deaths reported statewide was 16, and the number of probable deaths was seven for the week ending Nov.11.
The number of confirmed deaths reported statewide since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020 is 22,993, and the number of confirmed and probable deaths reported is 25,691.
No poll has been taken recently, but the last known total number of deaths caused by the virus for the area was 456.
Most of the cases reported in the area are believed to be caused by the EG.5 variant, which is a much weaker version of the original virus that plagued the nation and the world in March 2020.
Another variant has also emerged. It’s known as the BA.2.86.
